Charles B. Harrisson, 87, died May 9, 2011 at Harlee Manor. A graduate of Lansdowne High School, class of 1942 and University of PA, class of 1951, he spend the interim years in the U.S. Army, W.W. II, landing on D-Day on Utah Beach, Normany as part of the first 5 waves with the 1st Engineer Special Brigade. For this he received the Bronze Arrowhead followed by 3 Battle Stars for Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. His Brigade was also awarded the Franch Croix de Guerre with Palme and recently the French Medal de Jubilee on the 50th Anniversary. Most of his working career was with INA/CIGNA, retiring in 1988 as Assistant Manager, Financial Dept. of INA Reinsurance Co. In Lansdowne, where he lived from the age of 8, he has served as President of the Boys Club, Lansdowne Allied Youth Council and EDCO (Eastern Delaware County) Boys Athletic Conference. He was Chief Registrar and Judge for the Lansdowne 10K Memorial Day Run for a decade. He was a former PIAA Basketball official, served with the Lansdowne Fire Police District 7 and the Lansdowne Fire Co. for many years. He also was a behind-the-scenes reviewer under the name of “Charlie’s Choices” for the Lansdowne Public Library. He was a member of Descendants of Whaling Masters, a society located in New Bedford, MA.
